Other tidbits - the lead actor Ken Tobey went to star in The Whirly Birds tv show later in the 1950s and do many cop and other shows in the 60s. In a bit role, George Fenneman (wearing a cardigan sweater with a striped sleeve) went on to be the announcer for the comedy game show You Bet Your Life hosted by Groucho Marx. Of course The Thing was played by Federal Marshall Matt Dillon! Finally, a Socratic question: What is a bigger threat to man; the fear of the unknown, or man himself reacting to fear of the unknown?!The Unknown!https://www.blogger.com/profile/09914391706871203965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991083451225521019.post-73300672731223403402020-10-13T13:24:16.018-07:002020-10-13T13:24:16.018-07:00Oops! This was the second movie I ever saw when I was 6 years old watching TV on a weekday afternoon at a friend's place in 1958. I was transfixed for the whole film and ran home when it was done to tell my mom about it. Didn't realize until watching it again today on the This! channel that the story was taken from a John W Campbell Jr story. Campbell is a giant of science fiction with the Campbell Award named after him. He wrote dozens of stories for Astounding magazine, one of the legendary sci-fi pulp mags that is very collectible with great color and black and white drawings on the cover and at the start of every story. The Thing is a classic movie from what is now the classic science fiction literature of the pulp mags. My next sci-fi film as a kid was the equally mesmerizing (for me) Day the Earth Stood Still with Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal I saw on NBC's Saturday Night at the Movies.
