However, your comment about the President on TV being shown only in profile reminded me that this was a common technique in the 1950s: it was considered disrespectful of the office for an actor to portray the President in a contemporary situation (historical Presidents were OK). If you check out comic books of the same era, you'll see the same shaded profile or back of the head angle (like "George Steinbrenner" on SEINFELD). I seem to recall a controversy when John Kennedy was shown full-face in several Superman stories before and after his death (https://www.cbr.com/the-mystery-of-dc-comics-john-f-kennedy-superman-tribute-comic/).

Jesus, too, used to be shown from the back or bathed in light until Jeffrey (Captain Pike) Hunter portrayed him full-on in KING OF KINGS.

Thanks for resurrecting this important (if under-budgeted) Cold War work of speculative fiction!

Victor Koman, PhDAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991083451225521019.post-46245316400225805112023-11-30T15:08:30.891-08:002023-11-30T15:08:30.891-08:00The prismatic rainbow effects in X: The Man with t...The prismatic rainbow effects in X: The Man with the X-Ray eyes, was a unique lens and process marketed (on the movie credits) as Spectarama. Other music scores from sci-fi films of that era that have become part of our culture are The Thing From Another World & The Day the Earth Stood Still. Why not involve the entire community by showing these films in grade school, high school and college. Invite your neighbors to watch a double feature every other sunday in your house then the next house and keep rotating. This alone will bring friends and family together. Enough of the anti-social garbage that is being thrown around. Just good manners, a good time and trusting people by sharing with them these priceless gems.
